JOHN OTT

In the late 1930's fluorescent tube lights were invented by a major lighting company.  Cool white was the common color of light emitted by fluorescent tubes.

John Ott chose photography as a hobby and was a pioneer in time lapse photography.  He worked with photographing plants.  He was frustrated when plants would not bloom under indoor light like they did in the outdoors. Eventually he realized that indoor incandescent and fluorescent lighting did not duplicate the color spectrum of outdoor light and this was affecting the blooming.  He was one of the pioneers who developed total spectrum lighting using special blends of phosphors in fluorescent tubes.  Some of John Ott's earliest work in time lapse photography was done for Walt Disney.
