What is S.A.D. or Seasonal Affective Disorder?

Seasonal Affective Disorder, commonly known as S.A.D. (or SAD), affects thousands of people mainly during the winter months.   A lack of sunlight in the winter can cause decreased immune system functioning and an increase in certain depressive illnesses as S.A.D. or winter blues.  Symptoms include depressed mood, difficulties in concentration, craving of carbohydrates and increased sleeping.

Due to the type of working lives people lead, they often go to work in the morning when it is dark during the fall and winter months.  During the day  the lighting in buildings is generally not very good.  At the end of the work day, people usually go home in the dark because of the shortened daylight hours.  People often feel like they just do not have enough energy during the fall and winter months because they feel like they are always in the dark.

When spring comes and the daylight hours are becoming longer, people feel alive and filled with vim and vigor.

PEOPLE ARE TRULY LIGHT PEOPLE!

Some people use light boxes to provide extra light in their environment to feel better.  Some people choose  to use Total Spectrum light both in their home and work space to create a better invigorating environment.

LIGHTING SUGGESTIONS:

Use total spectrum bulbs in your bathroom!  What a great way to start the day by being in a giant light box!  Not only do you start the day with a dose of light, it is also easier to see when shaving or putting on make-up.  For those readers, you certainly can see your reading material with more clarity and ease. Remember the light is softer then regular lights due to the balance of colors in the total spectrum light.

Use the bulbs in your kitchen.  What a great way to make food more appetizing due to their enhanced color!  The relaxing environment created by the light provides an optimum place to enjoy your meal and social exchange with family and friends.

Change the bulbs in your table, desk, floor and task lighting. Remember the bulbs are energy savers which means dollar savings on your electric bill over the life of the bulb.

Make your home & work space a white light haven!
It will feel great!
